DC Streetcar Launch! @ 13th St Streetcar Stop

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is pleased to announce the launch of DC Streetcar! Join us on Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of 13th and H Streets as we reintroduce streetcars to the District. Passenger service will begin immediately following the brief 10 a.m. ceremony.

DC Streetcar will operate free service for the public for an introductory period. Permanent fare structure will be announced at a later date.

DC Streetcar launch

Many H Street businesses are offering business specials to celebrate the DC Streetcar launch. H Street Main Street is offering a passport program where completed passports can be entered into a grand prize drawing. Passports can be picked up at the DC Streetcar launch ceremony, as well as participating businesses. All the details can be found here!

Entertainment will be featured along the H Street NE corridor between 1:00 – 5:00 pm, including:

Benning Extension Environmental Assessment (EA) Hearing @ Department of Employment Services (DOES) Building

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites the community to a public hearing Thursday, May 19, 2016, to review the findings of an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Benning Road and Bridges Transportation Improvements.

Following the successful launch of the H/Benning Line of the DC Streetcar on February 27, 2016, this EA considers alternative approaches to extending the existing line east of the Benning Road Metrorail Station. The study area encompasses Benning Road, NE, from Oklahoma Avenue to the Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road Metrorail Stations, and evaluates the environmental and cultural effects of the proposed improvements.

The study was conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), and will be released by DDOT and the Federal Highway Administration on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Public comments will be accepted from May 4, 2016 until 5 pm June 2, 2016. Following the public comment period, the report will be finalized.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) along with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) invite the community to a public meeting Thursday, November 17, 2016, to discuss the proposed Union Station to Georgetown Streetcar Environmental Assessment (EA). This EA considers alternative approaches to extending the existing streetcar line from Union Station to Georgetown and will evaluate the environmental and cultural effects of the proposed improvements.

This meeting will be focused on the west end of the study area, specifically the West End, Foggy Bottom, and Georgetown neighborhoods, from K Street NW at 20th Street to Lower K Street at Wisconsin Avenue.

The study is being conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), and will be released by DDOT, FHWA, and FTA in the summer of 2017.
