Saturday: Temporary Westbound Lane Shift at Pocket Tracks Posted on June 26, 2014 On Saturday, June 28, 2014 between 7:00 am and 4:00 am, westbound traffic on Benning Road NE between 21st Street NE and 26th Street NE will be shifted to the eastbound side of the roadway to allow for the installation and testing of train control cable to the new track switches in the westbound lanes and eastbound median lane. Motorists traveling westbound on Benning Road NE will be directed to the eastbound side of the road at the 26th Street NE intersection. At the 21st Street intersection, vehicles reach will be directed back to the westbound side of Benning Road NE. All eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane of through traffic west of 21st Street NE and will return to the current configuration past the 26th Street intersection. Flaggers will be stationed at 21st Street NE and 26th Street NE to guide motorists through the shift. One lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions and will be separated by traffic barrels. Emergency “No Parking” signs will be installedalong eastbound Benning Road between 21st Street NE and 26th Street NE. Restricted Turning Movements: Left turns onto southbound 23rd Place NE from Benning Road NE Left turns from northbound 24th Street NE onto westbound Benning Road NE Left turns from northbound 25th Place NE onto westbound Benning Road NE Left turns from westbound Benning Road NE onto southbound 25th Place NE The westbound Metrobus stop at 21st Street NE for X1, X2 and X3 will be closed during this shift and will reopen at 4:00pm. Patrons are advised to use an alternate stop along the route during the closure. The eastbound X2 Metrobus stop at 21st Street NE will not be impacted by the shift. We ask that motorists and pedestrians use caution as they travel through or near the work zone, and follow all restrictions.
