Traffic and Parking Impacts 1/29/13 – 2/1/13 Posted on January 28, 2013 The DC Streetcar Design-Build Team will be performing construction activities in the roadway that will create traffic and parking impacts during non-peak hours through Friday, February 1. Track Bonding On Tuesday, January 29 and Wednesday, January 30 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., work crews will be performing minor roadway digging as part of their track bonding work. Track bonding is the process by which heavy-gauge wire is connected from rail to rail and track to track, also called cross-bonding. This process ensures the efficiency of the traction power system that will power the streetcars. Six locations along the corridor will be affected, with the following traffic and parking impacts: Right lane closures with no parking permitted: H Street at 13th Street (eastbound and westbound) Pedestrian crosswalk closure: West side of the H/13th Streets intersection Left lane closure: Benning Road at 17th Street (eastbound and westbound) Left lane closure: Benning Road between 25th and 26th Streets (eastbound and westbound) Advance warning signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public. Median Removal On Tuesday, January 29 through Friday, February 1 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., work crews will be removing portions of the median on the middle and eastern end of the Hopscotch Bridge in advance of future streetcar platform construction at the same locations. The impacts include: Left lane closures: Hopscotch Bridge and 3rd Street bridge approach on H Street (eastbound and westbound). Advance warning signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public. Turning radii for buses exiting Union Station will be maintained at all times. Schedule is subject to change based on weather, material and equipment availability and other unforeseen conditions.
