One-Lane-Only Traffic Restrictions to be Implemented on Eastbound Benning Road from 21st to 24th Streets Posted on June 19, 2013 On Wednesday, June 19th, the DC Streetcar construction team plans to implement eastbound one-lane-only traffic restrictions on Benning Road from 21st Street to just east of 24th Street to facilitate the first of a two-phase relocation of an existing 12-inch Washington Gas main. This section of Benning Road – approximately two blocks – has been a designated construction zone with traffic restrictions in place for DC Streetcar work since late March. These original restrictions provided for two traffic lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions. However, to accommodate the Washington Gas work, the eastbound section will have to be reduced to one lane. The gas line relocation is necessary due to its proximity to the existing streetcar tracks, which could affect streetcar service and restrict access to the gas line during future maintenance and repair. Advance warning signs will be posted in work areas. The schedule is subject to change due to weather, material and equipment availability and other unforeseen conditions. We encourage you to contact us at any time to share concerns or request more information. Please direct inquiries to email@example.com. Thank you for your patience!
