Traffic and Parking Impacts 2/25/13 – 3/8/13

The DC Streetcar Design-Build Team will perform construction activities in the roadway, creating traffic and parking impacts through Friday, March 8.

Streetcar Pole Foundation Checks

On Monday, February 25 through Friday, March 1, work crews will be checking the existing OCS (or streetcar pole) foundations in the Benning Road median from 15th Street to the Anacostia River. The impacts will include:

  • Rolling left lane closures, eastbound: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Rolling left lane closures, westbound: 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Advance warning signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public.

Test Pit Excavation

On Monday, February 25 through Friday, March 1, work crews will dig five small test pits within a one-block location of Benning Road NE in order to coordinate proposed utility placement. The impacts will include:

  • Left lane closure: Eastbound Benning Road between 24th and 25th Streets, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Sidewalk closure: Pedestrian crosswalk at eastbound Benning/24th Street, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Parking closure: Parking spaces on eastbound Benning Road between 21st and 26th Streets. In order to keep two lanes of traffic flowing down eastbound Benning Road, the curb lane between 21st and 26th Streets will be closed for parking and it will become a travel lane.

Advance warning signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public.

Median Removal

On Monday, February 25 through Friday, March 8, work crews will continue to remove portions of the median on the middle and eastern end of the Hopscotch Bridge in advance of future streetcar platform construction at the same locations. The impacts will include:

  • Left lane closure, eastbound: Hopscotch Bridge and 3rd Street bridge approach on H Street, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Left lane closure, westbound: Hopscotch Bridge and 3rd Street bridge approach on H Street, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Advance warning signs will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public. Turning radii for buses exiting Union Station will be maintained at all times.

Schedule is subject to change based on weather, material and equipment availability and other unforeseen conditions. For immediate construction assistance, contact Margaret Gentry at (202) 320-8534 or margaret@dcstreetcar.com.
